The Buena Vista Project
occupies the last undeveloped parcel of the historic Cornfields.
A landscape shaped by nearly 150 years of industrialization, environmental contamination, community resistance, and the ongoing struggle to reclaim land for public benefit.
A Peoples’ Assessment of Lead Contamination throughout the Buena Vista/Cornfields Corridor
We helped lead a community-led study examining lead contamination in soils surrounding the proposed Buena Vista development, drawing on samples from Elysian Park and Solano Canyon to investigate patterns of pollution across the historic Cornfields corridor. Findings reveal widespread elevated lead concentrations, particularly in residential soils, raising concerns about potential contamination at Buena Vista and gaps in the project's environmental review.
